What are refinements? (hourly rates)

Refine your hourly rate rules with appropriate sub-rules to better reflect complex hourly rate systems.

Subrules or rule refinements allow you to organize your hourly rate rules more clearly, without having to create and sort through an endless number of individual rules.

Refinements or subrules are structured hierarchically. In other words, you start with a fairly general rule, for example, for a client. This rule applies whenever there is no more specific rule. With each level, a more specific hourly rate is assigned. Subrules are then created using the small plus icon. For example, at the project, service, or employee levels. This might look like the following:

  • Client “Example Inc.” €100
    • Employee Max Mustermann €150 (subrule)
      • Service Consulting €175 (2nd refinement)
    • Employee Maria Mustermann €200 (subrule)
      • Service: Consulting €225 (2nd refinement)

This results in the following scenario:

  • Barbara logs 1 hour for “Example Inc.” with the service “Consulting.” Since no sub-rule has been created for Barbara, €100 per hour is billed.
  • Max logs 1 hour for “Example Inc.” with the service “Project Management.” Since the refinement for Max only covers the service “Consulting,” the first subrule applies and €150 per hour is billed.
  • Maria Mustermann logs 1 hour for “Beispiel AG” with the service Consulting. Since a corresponding refinement exists here, the corresponding subrule applies and €225 per hour is billed.
